New Delhi: Terming the incident of lathi-charge on students preparing for Railway Recruitment examination in Prayagraj as ‘unfortunate’, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya appealed for restraint and said action will be taken against the police personnel found guilty.
In a tweet, the deputy CM appealed to the Opposition to not make it a political matter and said that the incident will be investigated and strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
Priyanka's appeal
On the other hand, taking a dig at the government over the lathicharge incident in Prayagraj, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in a series of tweets, asked the government to put a check on the police action. The Congress leader said, “The amount of condemnation on the youth associated with Railway NTPC and Group D examination is less. The government immediately spoke to the youth associated with both the examinations to find a solution of their problems. Stop vandalism and search operations by entering the hostels of the students.”
The Congress leader further said that the order banning the students from their jobs due to protests should be withdrawn and added that the arrested students should be released. Priyanka also appealed to the protesting students to present their point peacefully. "My appeal to the protesting students is that Satyagraha has a lot of strength. Keep walking on the path of Satyagraha peacefully."

Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also reacted to the incident describing the ‘violent attack on the innocent students’ as ‘shameful and highly condemnable’. “The mistreatment of the students in the BJP government will lead to the historic downfall of the BJP. SP is with struggling students,” he said.
A day before the Republic Day on Tuesday, the police lathi-charged the students for allegedly agitating against the railway recruitment process in the RRB-NTPC examination and obstructing the railway track.
The police have so far suspended three persons in the case and the investigation on the matter is underway.
