The family of the late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari plans to file a plea in the Allahabad High Court seeking the release of his legislator son, Abbas Ansari, on parole. Lawyers for the Ansari family were in the process of preparing the parole petition at the time of writing. The family wants to appeal for an early hearing in the matter as their plea aims to secure Abbas's temporary release to allow him to attend his father's last rites, it is learnt.

Abbas Ansari has already been denied bail in three cases. These include an illegal meeting with wife Nikhat Ansari in Chitrakoot jail and threatening jail staff, a case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and a recent gangster case.

The parole application will seek Abbas Ansari's release for a short period. He is currently lodged in Kasganj jail of Uttar Pradesh. Since the cases against him are registered in different districts of the state, the appeal is being filed directly in the High Court.

Mukhtar Ansari Had Complained Of Abdominal Pain

Mukhtar Ansari's health reportedly deteriorated after he returned to the Banda district jail from a medical college on the evening of March 26. He had reportedly remained hospitalised for around 14 hours Tuesday after he complained of abdominal pain. According to sources, he had only consumed a light meal before taking medication that night after returning to jail, and had eaten only fruits the following day. On Thursday, he had only eaten some 'khichadi'. His condition worsened after experiencing abdominal cramps, leading to an urgent examination by doctors.

Despite efforts by medical personnel and administration officials, Mukhtar Ansari could not be saved after his condition deteriorated further around 7 pm.

His brother and Ghazipur MP Afzal Ansari had earlier alleged that he had been poisoned in jail.

Ansari, a five-time former MLA from Mau, had been spending time in the jails of UP and Punjab since 2005. With over 60 criminal cases registered against him, different UP courts had sentenced Ansari in eight cases since September 2022.

The UP Police had released a list of 66 gangsters last year, and Ansari was one of them.
