Two women, including a senior citizen, died and eight got rescued as a massive fire broke out on Monday at a house in Ghaziabad's Lal Bagh colony. One of the deceased was aged 74 years and it is suspected that she died of asphyxiation and the other one was of 40 years of age. The forty-year-old succumbed to her burn injuries. Fire tenders reached the spot at 06:51 am soon after the fire broke out. As per police officials, the prima facie cause of the fire was identified as a short circuit.
"The injured were sent to a hospital where two women died during treatment. Prima facie, the fire broke out due to a short circuit. As soon as the information about the fire was received, 3 fire engines were sent to the spot. The work of making tents was done in the basement of the house," Rahul Kumar, Chief Fire Officer, Ghaziabad, told news agency ANI.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Loni, Rajneesh Upadhiyai while talking to PTI said, "Both the women were members of the same family. They were taken to a CHC (community health centre) but did not survive. Their postmortem reports are awaited."
While the firefighters were dousing the fire, a fire tender got injured after an iron gate fell on him.

In another incident, a fire broke out in a VIP guest room at Bhagalpur railway station in Bihar on Sunday afternoon, news agency ANI reported. According to the report, the furniture in the room was gutted. However, no casualty was reported. Over five fire tenders were rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident and the passengers were shifted to a safe location, Railway Officer Satendra Kumar said. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the official added.
While speaking to the media, Kumar said, “The fire was brought under control, and there are no injuries.”
