A fire broke out in a housing society in Greater Noida on Wednesday, officials told PTI. While no individual was injured, the blaze broke out on the fire floor of an apartment and spread to the second floor. At around 11:30 am, the fire was reported from Gaur City Avenue 14, an officer told PTI. A video shared by PTI shows a plume of thick black smoke billowing out of the blaze which engulfed the two floors of the multi-story residential building.

"The fire broke out in the balcony of the first floor of an apartment and then spread to the second floor apartment also," Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar Choubey of Gautam Buddha Nagar area said.

“The balcony was closed which is why it spread to the second floor. However, the building used its own hoses to get the fire under control, when we reached, we could carry out the rest of the operation and put out the fire. The fire alarms in the building also alert the neighbours”, Choubey said.

"The fire has been controlled and no person suffered any injuries," he added.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Kumar told the media, the preliminary report suggests that the fire could have been caused due to a short circuit or a diya kept for the home temple the fire chief said.
