New Delhi: Following the announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to repeal farm laws, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said that it was farmers’ victory. He said that the apology by the PM was a "false apology" and it would not help the government in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.

“Farmers' efforts have paid off. It's the defeat of ego & victory of farmers, democracy. People will not forgive them (Centre) in the upcoming polls.  This false apology won't work...People who have apologised should also resign from politics forever…” said the SP chief as reported by ANI.

Yadav further said that the government has announced to roll back the laws due to fear of losing elections. He questioned the government's intention and asked what if the government brings back the laws after polls.

“Farmers won't forgive and will wipe BJP out...Laws have been withdrawn for votes as govt is scared of elections. What if they bring back such laws after polls? They are not thinking about farmers; insulted them at every level. WiIl BJP apologise?” said Yadav.

Whereas Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati said that the decision to repeal farm laws should have been taken much earlier. She also demanded that the government should introduce a law in the winter session of the Parliament on the issue of Minimum Support Price (MSP).

"Farmers' sacrifice has paid off. The decision to repeal the three farm laws should have been taken much before. Still, farmers' demand for a law on MSP is pending. BSP demands that in the upcoming Parliament session the Centre should bring a law in this regard (on MSP)," said Mayawati.
