New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI), on its second day of visit to poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, will meet with senior police officials and District Magistrates of 75 districts of the state. All the DMs and SSPs from across the state have been called to state capital Lucknow on Wednesday for a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner and the ECI team.

The ECI will take election-related feedback in this meeting. Based on this feedback, it is possible that a decision can be taken regarding the conduct of elections.

In view of rising cases of Covid-19 and the Omicron variant, the Allahabad High Court had requested the Election Commission of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to postpone the upcoming UP assembly election.

Before this, on Tuesday, the EC had a meeting with the National and regional political parties and other stakeholders. The Commission will hold a press conference on Thursday and it is likely that the Election Commission will announce election dates on December 30.
