A woman who went to a police station in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, for passport verification was accidentally shot in the head with a pistol owned by sub-inspector Manoj Sharma. CCTV footage of the incident was obtained. The injured woman was rushed to JN Medical College for treatment, NDTV reported. 


The woman can be seen entering the police station and standing there for a while in the video. After some time, a police officer arrived and handed the sub-inspector a pistol. A gunshot was accidentally fired at the woman while she was cleaning the pistol, causing her to fall to the ground.

The woman is said to be in critical condition, according to the police, as per the report.


The accident took place around 2:50 pm. The accused policeman is missing.


The family has alleged that the woman was being harassed for money by the officer in charge of her passport verification. An argument followed and the officer shot her, claimed the family.


"She went to the police station for a passport check. She was receiving money-related phone calls. Don't know who shot her. Don't know about the money demanded. There was an argument between them," said Jeeshan, a relative of the 55-year-old injured woman, the NDTV report said.


"Inspector Manoj Sharma has been suspended with immediate effect due to negligence, and a criminal case has been filed against him." The injured woman is being treated by a doctor's team, and the footage of the incident is being investigated by the field unit', Aligarh SSP Kalanidhi Naithani told NDTV.


The officer stated that the woman was hit in the back of the head that teams have been formed and that strict action will be taken against the accused officer.


According to the report, the woman intended to travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah, a mini-pilgrimage.
