A 22-year-old woman was killed and around six people were injured on Wednesday after a speeding car rammed into street shops mowing down people who came in its way in east Delhi's Ghazipur area. The incident occurred at around 9 pm, following which the agitated locals vandalised the erring vehicle and thrashed its driver, news agency PTI reported on Thursday.

In the video of the accident which has been caught on camera, the driver can be seen ploughing into the shops in a busy market area. The driver can also be seen reversing the car, in an attempt to run away.

However, as per PTI's report, the agitated people smashed the car's windscreen and windows and tried to break its doors before flipping it over. The driver is said to have sustained grave injuries in the attack and has been hospitalised at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.

Following the car accident, DCP (east) Apoorva Gupta stated that it happened in the Budh Bazaar area. "Several people were injured and brought to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. One person who was in critical condition has died. The accused is also undergoing treatment here," she stated.

AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar commented on the incident saying: "An accident occurred near Mayur Vihar’s Ryan School. The driver was inebriated and ran over several people killing one person. This is a tragic incident".

As per police official, the deceased has been identified as Sita Devi. The people who have sustained injuries were residents of the Khoda Colony located near the Delhi-Ghaziabad border.
