Azam Khan, Son Abdullah And Wife Get Seven-Year Jail Term Each In Fake Birth Certificate Case

BJP MLA Akash Saxena had filed a case against Abdullah Azam, son of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, in 2019 for having two birth certificates.

Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, his wife Tanzin Fatima and son Abdullah Azam Khan were handed seven-year prison terms each after being convicted in a fake birth certificate case by a Rampur MP-MLA court. The trio was taken into custody after the verdict and will be sent to jail directly from the court.

"After convicting Azam Khan, his wife Tanzeem Fatima and their son Abdullah Azam Khan, the court has sentenced all three to seven years of imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000," ANI quoted former DGC (crime) Arun Saxena as saying.

Police security has been increased in Rampur to prevent any law and order situation.

BJP MLA Akash Saxena had filed a case against Abdullah Azam in 2019 for having two birth certificates. Azam Khan and his wife Tanzin Fatima were also named as accused. A case was lodged against Abdullah Azam Khan and his parents under IPC Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471.

Abdullah Azam has been accused of using two birth certificates from time to time as per his convenience. One was issued by the Lucknow municipality and the other by the Rampur municipality.

While Abdullah Azam used his first birth certifiate to obtain a passport for his foreign tours, he used the second certificate for government-related purposes, a report in India Today said. The certificates were issued through fraudulent means as part of a pre-planned conspiracy, the report said.

"Abdullah Azam Khan is accused of making two birth certificates. The first birth certificate is of January 1, 1993, while the other birth certificate was made from Lucknow in which his birth date is September 30, 1990," former DGC (crime) Saxena said.

The development comes as a fresh setback to Abdullah Azam, who was disqualified as a member of Uttar Pradesh Assembly earlier this year after being convicted and sentenced to two-year imprisonment in a 15-year-old case.  The Supreme Court, last week, refused to give an interim stay on Abdullah's conviction in the case.

Previously, both Azam Khan and his son Abdullah were convicted in a 2019 hate speech case. Azam Khan and Abdullah had represented the Suar Assembly constituency in Rampur district before being disqualified.
