Diwali 2023: Ayodhya Gears Up To Set World Record By Lighting 24 Lakh Diyas At 51 Ghats

Diwali 2023: Around 25,000 volunteers will be deployed at 51 ghats of Ram Ki Paidi and Chaudhary Charan Singh Ghat to achieve the record.

In a bid to make the upcoming Diwali festival historic in Ayodhya, the administration of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University has initiated preparations for lighting a staggering 24 lakh lamps on the auspicious occasion. Volunteers will be deployed at 51 ghats of Ram Ki Paidi and Chaudhary Charan Singh Ghat to achieve the record, ANI reported.

As per an official release, the Uttar Pradesh government has set target of lighting 21 lakh lamps and create a world record.

Under the supervision of university vice-chancellor Pratibha Goyal, efforts are on to make the 'Grand Deepotsav' an extravagant affair. More than 25,000 volunteers will be deployed in abid to set another world record during the festival.

Under the supervision of ghat in-charges and ghat coordinators, the volunteers have already placed 60-70 per cent of the 24 lakh lamps at the ghats, the press release mentioned.

To ensure no hiccups, the university administration ensured ample availability of lamps, wicks, candles, and other essential materials for the coordinators and volunteers, the official release said. To ensure security, volunteers will be required to present identity cards issued by the university administration and district administration to enter the Deepotsav site. The volunteers will also have to furnish their Aadhar card to enter the site in Ayodhya.

The press release further mentioned that an area of 2.5 feet has been set aside for volunteers to light the lamps and a space of 4.50 by 4.50 square feet has been allocated for the block of 16 by 16 (256) lamps. Similarly a block of 14 by 14 has also been made for volunteers to light the diyas.

As per the release, laying of lamps will be done by volunteers under the supervision of ghat in- charge by November 9. On November 10, the ghats will be cleaned and the lamps will be counted by Guinness Book of World Records team.

Volunteers and ghat in-charges have been asked to wear cotton clothes on the day of 'Deepotsav'.

As per the press release, Deepotsav nodal officer Sant Sharan Mishra, said, "Volunteers and other officials have been informed about the preparations for Deepotsav and buses have been arranged for the volunteers from the university to Deepotsav. The buses will leave for Ram Ki Paidi from the university every day at 8 am."
