New Delhi: A tragic scene emerged from Ayodhya as the body of an eight-year-old boy with several stab injuries was recovered from a forest on Wednesday, a day after he went missing from his house in the Tarun area, a police official said. According to news agency PTI, Raj Gupta, son of Manoj Gupta, a local businessman, went missing from his house in Kichuti Bazar after 7 pm on Tuesday. The boy's father complained to the police alleging kidnapping but a missing report was lodged in the matter, officials further added.

However, when villagers went to the forest around 10 am on Wednesday to fetch wood, they spotted the boy's body lying in an 8-foot dip pit, PTI quoted a police officer as saying.

Later, the officer revealed that the body had several stab wounds on it. "Whoever is involved in this incident will not be spared and the strictest action will be taken," PTI quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police Surendra Singh as saying. "The body has been sent for post-mortem," he added.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party president and former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav hit out at the state government over the incident. He slammed the state govt for this tragic incident.

"The news of the abduction and murder of an innocent child in the highly sensitive Ayodhya is extremely distressing",  Yadav posted on X.

"This is a grave incident, especially considering that just a day ago, Ayodhya was the most important place in the country from a security perspective. The truth behind the false claims of law and order being under control by the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh is revealed with this incident," he added.
