Postmortem of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed, who were point-blank shot dead on Saturday night in a dramatic series of events, were conducted on Sunday evening. According to the autopsy report, at least eight bullets struck the 5-term MLA's body. The first bullet ripped through Atiq's temple, and he fell down within a moment; the moment his brother (Ashraf) could look back, he was also shot dead, and both brothers fell down to the ground handcuffed. The shooter, on the other hand, continued to fire bullets at their bodies until they were knocked down by police.

According to ANI, a three-member judicial enquiry committee has been formed after Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a high-level probe into the killings of gangster-turned-politician Atiq and Ashraf. The panel will be led by retired Justice Arvind Kumar Tripathi of the Allahabad High Court, with two other members being retired IPC officer Subesh Kumar Singh and retired district judge Brijesh Kumar Soni. In two months, the committee will submit its report to the UP government.

The gangster's last rites will be performed on Sunday evening at the Kasari Masari graveyard in Prayagraj amid heavy police security; just a day earlier, Atiq's son Asad's last rites were also performed at the same site, with only a few distant relatives and locals present inside the burial ground.

Saturday night footage showed mafia don-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed getting out of the back of a police jeep near a hospital in Prayagraj. Ahmed, a former MP and convicted criminal are helped down by a police officer and his brother Ashraf. A chain attached to their handcuffs is leading the brothers.
As they begin walking, surrounded by a ring of police constables, local TV reporters surround them, including gunmen posing as journalists. A gun is pulled close to his head a second later, and his white turban falls off his head as he collapses to the ground. His brother is shot moments later. Two gunmen and another man quickly surrendered to the police.
