Police have arrested three attackers who opened fire on mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed on Saturday in Prayagraj. The attackers surrendered after firing. The police have identified and apprehended the three attackers who fired at former mafia don turned politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed. The attackers have been identified as Lavlesh Tiwari, Sunny, and Arun Maurya.


According to joint city officials, all three attackers fired at Atiq Ahmed and his brother while they were being taken for a medical check-up. A policeman was also injured during the incident and suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder. A media person was also injured in the attack.


According to UP Police sources, the three individuals are not from the Prayagraj district. It has been determined that all three assailants had been doing recce for the past three days prior to the incident. Furthermore, it has been reported that the attackers had visited the location where the crime took place just one day prior to carrying out the heinous act.

This latest attack comes just days after Atiq Ahmed's son Asad was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTF) in Jhansi. Asad and his accomplice Ghulam were wanted in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj.

Atiq Ahmed, a prime accused in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case and the Umesh Pal murder case of this year, has been in the news for his alleged criminal activities. His family has been embroiled in several incidents of violence in recent times, and the latest attack is a cause for concern for the authorities.
