On Friday, SP President Akhilesh Yadav attacked the BJP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the presence of Ajay Mishra Teni on the podium. Teni, who is facing serious allegations over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident was seen sharing the stage with Amit Shah. In a tweet on Saturday, Akhilesh shared a picture of Amit Shah and Ajay Mishra and said, "The pretense of finding a gangster with a telescope, as you stand right next to one, is plausible.''
In the BJP Worker conference on Friday, Shah had earlier applauded the police and legal system of the state by shaping his fingers like a telescope and saying that no that no Gangster could be seen in UP through this telescope. This act done by Shah is said to have triggered Yadav's tweet on Saturday. Shah had said, "Before 2017, the deplorable situation of law in UP made my blood boil. Girls and women used to feel unsafe during the previous government's rule. Back then, every street and locality had 2-3 gangsters which terrorized locals, but today even if I use binoculars to check, there is not one gangster in sight.
8 killed in Lakhimpur violence:
It may be recalled that eight people, including four farmers, were killed in violence during a farmers' agitation in Tikonia area of Lakhimpur Kheri district on October 3. Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, has been arrested for murder in the case.
Opposition parties including SP and Congress have been consistently demanding Mishra's dismissal as Minister of State for Home. The same parties are now attacking BJP and Amit Shah as the Union Home Minister is seen sharing the podium with Ajay Mishra.
