Three people died and several others were injured after a speeding van ploughed into a wedding procession at Sisaula Khurd village in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district, news agency IANS reported. An 18-year-old youth died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries in hospital, police told the news agency.



Superintendent of Police (Rural) Aniruddh Kumar said: "There was a wedding ceremony at a resort on Meerut-Baghpat road. When the procession reached the gates of the venue, a speeding van ploughed into the group, leaving six injured. Varun Kumar, a class 12 student, died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at hospital. We have arrested the accused driver."

The accused was in an inebriated condition.


4 children among 5 killed in road accident in Rajasthan 


Five people, including four children, were killed after their motorcycle collided with a truck in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan on Thursday, police said.


The accident occurred in the evening.


The Rajsamand police control room said that the deceased were identified as Bhanwar Singh (35), his 14-year-old son Ajaypal and other relatives Shaitan Singh (14), Leela (17) and Usha (16).


The victims were the residents of a village under the Bheem police station area.


The truck driver has been taken into custody, the police said.


7 schoolchildren killed as truck hits autorickshaw in Chhattisgarh


Seven schoolchildren were killed and two others, including a student, were critically injured after an autorickshaw ferrying the kids was hit by a truck in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Thursday, a senior police official said.


Earlier, the police said five children had died.


Eight students from a private school were going home in the auto when the accident took place on the Korar-Bhanupratappur Road around 3.10 pm under the Korar police station limits, the official said.


Five students died on the spot, while two others were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, he said.


One student and the auto driver are seriously injured and they have been taken to the state capital Raipur, about 140 km from Korar, for better medical assistance, the official said.


Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel expressed condolences over the death of the schoolchildren. The administration has been directed to extend all possible help to the injured, he said in a tweet in Hindi.


“May God give courage to the family members,” added CM Baghel.


The truck driver fled the spot leaving behind the heavy vehicle, the official said. “We have launched a search to nab the truck driver,” he added.
