Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police is set to enhance the security arrangements for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as well as the Governor and other VIPs, by procuring state-of-the-art equipment worth more than Rs 1 crore. This initiative aims to make their security arrangements foolproof, especially during state tours and rallies, while also securing religious sites and events like the Kumbh Mela.

The Chief Minister already has a Z-Plus category security cover, with NSG commandos as well as state police personnel on protective detail as well. A letter from the administration to the Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Headquarters has called for the purchase of 91 equipment at a cost of Rs 1.02 crore, in view of security requirements for key figures and establishments.

Details Of Equipment To Be Purchased

Bolstering and updating the security arrangements of the CM is an exercise taken up routinely in light of potential threats, including from terrorist groups. As part of the latest exercise, the UP Police is expected to purchase 91 ultra-modern security devices. These include drones, body-worn cameras, and night-vision devices.

The exact order is likely to include:

  • Three state-of-the-art drone cameras: Total cost Rs 42 lakh.

  • Fifty body-worn cameras: Total cost Rs 25 lakh.

  • Thirty-four dresscams: Total cost Rs 6.8 lakh.

  • Four night-vision devices: Cost Rs 28.4 lakh.

All these prices have been determined on the basis of previous purchases, or the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal.

Quality Assurance and Deployment

The UP Home Department has assigned the responsibility of quality checks to technically skilled officers from the police department. These devices will be integrated into the security detail of the chief minister and governor, among other VIPs.
