Six people were killed and two were injured after a car collided with an auto on Saturday morning. The driver of a Creta car, attempting to overtake another vehicle, switched lanes at high speed but failed to notice an approaching autorickshaw, resulting in a collision, Bijnor Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek told ANI. The incident occurred near the police station in Dhampur in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh.
There were seven people in the auto, of which six died on the spot, SP Abhishek said. The auto driver was severely injured and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the Creta driver, who had suffered minor injuries was taken to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
A case has been registered against the car driver and the vehicle has been seized.
The people who died were a family returning to Bijnor after a wedding in Bihar. The bride and groom were among the people who died on the spot.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath expressed his grief regarding the incident. According to a tweet posted on X, the CM had “instructed the concerned district administration officials to reach the spot and expedite the relief work and immediately take the injured to the hospital for proper treatment. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured”.
