New Delhi: At least two Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire with the police in a forest area of the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district of Telangana bordering Chhattisgarh on Sunday. The police said on the basis of reliable information that a team of the banned outfit CPI (Maoist) was moving in the Puttapadu forests with a view of attacking them, special police parties took up combing in the area when the ultras fired on police personnel, reported news agency PTI.


Following the exchange of fire, the police conducted searches in the area during which the bodies of two of the ultras were found from the scene, the police said.


One of the deceased was identified as Cherla LOS (local organisation squad) commander Rajesh while the identity of the other was being ascertained, the police added.


The police also seized weapons including one SLR (Self-Loading Rifle) and other items from the scene. The combing operation was still underway, police said.

10 Police Pesonnel Killed In Maoist Attack Earlier In Chhattisgarh


In a separate incident of Maoists attack, at least 10 police personnel and a goods van driver were killed in an explosion orchestrated by suspected Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada on Wednesday (April 26). The area is around 450 km from the state capital Raipur. Maoists blew up a goods minivan, in which the security personnel were travelling by using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), police sources said.


The attack comes a day after Inspector General of Police of Bastar Range Sundarraj P said that more than 400 Maoist cadres are surrendering every year.


“On average, more than 400 Maoist cadres are surrendering every year. A special campaign named “Lone Varratu” has been conducted in District Dantewada for this purpose and results are great,” Sundarraj P was quoted as saying by ANI on Tuesday (April 25).


The deceased were identified as: head constable Joga Sodhi, head constable Munna Ram Kadti, head constable Santosh Tamo, constable Dulgo Mandavi, constable Lakhmu Markam, constable Joga Kawasi, constable Hariram Mandavi, Raju Ram Kartan, Jairam Podiam, and Jagadish Kawasi.


Wednesday's attack was the second such incident in as many weeks in Chhattisgarh. A DRG jawan was injured in a similar attack in Bijapur on April 17.
