VCK Chief Thol Thirumavalavan's Video Demanding Power Share Deleted Amid Controversy

Thol Thirumavalavan later distanced himself from the video suggesting that it was an old recording and that its posting and subsequent deletion were likely managed by his social media administrator.

A video featuring Thol Thirumavalavan, leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and an ally of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, was deleted shortly after being posted on his social media account on Saturday. The video showed Thirumavalavan demanding a share in political power, leading to controversy. He later distanced himself from the video, suggesting that it was an old recording and that its posting and subsequent deletion were likely managed by his social media administrator.

According to PTI, Thirumavalavan stated, "I am yet to verify it. Let me see. Probably, the admin would have posted and later deleted it." 

When questioned about the content of the video, where he was heard demanding a share in power, he responded, "We have been saying it for a long time."

However, he refrained from providing a direct answer when asked if he was under pressure to delete the video or if his administrator acted without his knowledge. He noted, "I will be able to say only after verifying it."

In the video from 2016, Thirumavalavan can be heard advocating for coalition governance as a means for marginalized communities, such as Dalits and minorities, to gain a share of political power. He also emphasised that coalition governments were essential for providing political representation and power to marginalized groups. Thirumavalavan, known for his vocal criticism of the BJP and his advocacy for Dalit rights, has long pushed for greater inclusion of marginalized communities in political structures.

The incident has stirred discussions within the political circles of Tamil Nadu, especially given the VCK’s alliance with the DMK. Earlier, VCK also announced an alcohol prohibition conference in the state and invited Opposition, AIADMK, to the meet. However, Thol Thirumalavan clarified that the invite to Opposition should be seen outside of politics.
