Former Union Minister Santosh Gangwar's wife Saubhagyavati passed away on Friday morning. She had been ill for a long time and breathed her last at 5 am in the morning at Bharat Seva Trust in Bareilly. BJP leaders and those close to the family of the eight-time MP mourned her passing.

Bharat Seva Trust, the house of Santosh Gangwar, is situated in the Prem Nagar police station area. The last rites will be performed at the city cremation ground at 4 PM. Saubhagyavati Gangwar was also the president of Urban Cooperative Bank.

UP Minister Jitin Prasada posted on X: "Received the sad news of the demise of Saubhagyavati Gangwarji (President, Urban Cooperative Bank), the wife of honourable Santosh Gangwarji, MP from Bareilly and former minister. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this unbearable loss."

UP minister Sanjay Singh Gangwar, too, offered his condolences and said: "May God grant peace to the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense loss."

Santosh Gangwar, who won the Bareilly Lok Sabha seat in UP, is the sitting MP. The BJP dropped the 75-year-old MP this year from its candidates' list and fielded 68-year-old former UP minister Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar, causing an internal rift within the party's UP unit.
