The Bhagwant Mann Government has taken yet another groundbreaking step toward building a Rangla Punjab; this time by addressing one of the most pressing challenges the state faces: drug abuse.
Under the strong leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is working on multiple fronts - power, education, healthcare, employment, and now, combating drug addiction through data-driven governance. The state is launching India’s first-ever Drug Census to develop a scientific and strategic response to the drug crisis.
A State-Wide Drug Census to Collect Real-Time Data
In the current financial year, the Mann Government has announced a state-wide Drug Census across every household in Punjab. With a budget allocation of ₹150 crore, this initiative will gather critical data on:
- The socio-economic conditions of affected families
- The prevalence of substance abuse
- The usage patterns of intoxicants and de-addiction resources
This structured and thorough data collection will provide a solid foundation for a scientific and effective anti-drug strategy.
From Data to Action: A Roadmap to Eliminate Drugs in 1–2 Years
The data insights from the Drug Census will help the government build a targeted, evidence-based action plan to eradicate drug abuse from Punjab within the next one to two years.
The strategy will combine public health, education, law enforcement, and community rehabilitation to ensure a sustainable and holistic approach to a drug-free Punjab.
Combating Cross-Border Drug Trafficking with Technology and Manpower
A major contributor to Punjab’s drug problem is cross-border smuggling of narcotics and illegal weapons. The Mann Government has crafted a first-of-its-kind border security plan to tackle this head-on.
Key highlights:
Installation of Anti-Drone Systems along the India-Pakistan border
Deployment of 5,000 trained Home Guards to assist the Border Security Force (BSF) in surveillance and interception
A dedicated ₹110 crore allocation in the state budget to execute this anti-trafficking blueprint
These Home Guards will be selected through a strict, merit-based recruitment process and will play a pivotal role in protecting Punjab’s future generations.
The Mann Government’s Mission: A Safer, Stronger, Drug-Free Punjab
This initiative is not just a fight against drugs it’s a commitment to Punjab’s youth, families, and communities. With strong data, smart policy, and strategic border control, the Mann Government is paving the way for a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous Punjab.
Punjab is no longer treating drug addiction as a social taboo it’s tackling it as a governance priority. The future is data-driven, and Punjab is leading the way.
