New Delhi: A 35-year-old woman was shot dead in Punjab's Patiala for allegedly consuming liquor on the premises of a gurdwara, police said on Monday, as reported by PTI.


According to Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police, Varun Sharma, the incident took place on Sunday evening.


The woman, identified as Parminder Kaur, was allegedly consuming liquor near the "sarovar" (holy water tank) of Dukhniwarn Sahib Gurdwara in Patiala, Sharma said.


According to the police, Kaur, who was a resident of Urban Estate Phase I, was shot multiple times by the accused Nirmaljit Singh, who is a regular visitor of the gurdwara.


"Parminder Kaur was having liquor near the sarovar of Gurdwara Dukhniwarn Sahib. When the sangat noticed this, they decided to take her to the manager's office. However, one person, Nirmaljeet Singh Saini, present there shot her in a fit of anger," Sharma said.






Kaur was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead by the doctors, police said.


According to PTI, a man injured in the incident was hospitalised and is currently reported to be in stable condition.


According to the police, the accused has been arrested, who is a property dealer and has no criminal background, and his licensed revolver has been seized.
