Two inmates were killed and as many injured after a clash broke out between inmates in a jail in Punjab's Sangrur on Friday, said the officials. 


The matter is under investigation, said the police adding that they are trying to ascertain what led to the clash in which four prisoners got injured and two succcumbed to their injuries. 


"Four patients (inmates) from the district jail were brought to the hospital, out of which two were brought dead. Two seriously injured have been referred to Patiala," a doctor at the government hospital in Sangrur told reporters.






Harsh and Dharmender were brought dead while Gagandeep Singh and Mohd Sehwaz are injured, said the doctor.


Jailbandi was going on at around 7 pm when around 10 people from ward number 6 went to ward number 7 and attacked some inmates with sharp weapon, said Deputy Inspector General (Jail) Surinder Singh Saini, adding that after the attack, jail alarm was rung. 


The fight erupted due to some past rivalry, he added.
