Punjab police has arrested former Congress MLA from Ferozepur's Halka Zira, Kulbir Singh Zira, from his house early Tuesday morning for allegedly obstructing officials from performing their official duties. The District Congress Chief was scheduled to hold a press conference outside the SSP office at around 11:00 am on Tuesday to 'expose' the police administration and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders.
Police arrested Zira after an official posted in the BDPO office requested the police to take action against him and his colleagues who were sitting inside the office for three days and allegedly obstructed official work including tampering with government documents, reported ANI.
Notably, a few days back, Kulbir Singh Zira staged a dharna with his men inside the BDPO office. Later, on the complaint of the government administration, a case was registered against Zira and his 70 to 80 accomplices.
"After producing him before the Duty Magistrate, the former MLA has been sent to judicial custody by the Duty Magistrate till October 30," an official said, quoted ANI. Police added that the case has been registered against Kulbir Singh Zira under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Now, supporters of the former Congress MLA have stated a demonstration outside the civil hospital in Ferozepur, Punjab where he is undergoing a medical checkup. PTI reported that Zira has been sent to a 14-day judicial custody till October 31.
