Unidentified armed men shot and killed gangster Jarnail Singh in Amritsar's Sathiala village. According to reports, Singh, who belonged to the notorious Gopi Ghamshampuriya gang, was currently out on bail. Senior police officers rushed to the scene. Jarnail Singh was shot 20-25 times by armed assailants. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The police have launched an investigation and manhunt to apprehend the attackers. CCTV footage of the murder in broad daylight has also emerged, showing masked men firing indiscriminately at Jarnail Singh.
Although preliminary investigations point to gang rivalry, the police have yet to issue an official statement on the subject.
SSP Amritsar Rural Satinder Singh: "Jarnail Singh was shot dead by four persons in Sathiala today. The culprits have been identified and their arrest will be made soon. There are four FIRs against him including charges of attempt to murder and case registered under the Arms Act," he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Earlier this week, the Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force apprehended four members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. They were reportedly planning an attack when they were apprehended. Mehfuz alias Vishal Khan, a resident of Derabassi Saidpura, Manjit alias Guri Derabassi Khedi Gujran, Ankit Narayangarh Panchkula, and Goldy Kheri Panchkula were identified as the accused.
