In a recent portfolio reshuffle, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reallocated key departments, resulting in the loss of four significant portfolios by Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer. According to an official order, Hayer is now left with the Sports and Youth Services department. The reallocated departments, including Mines and Geology, Water Resources, and Conservation of Land and Water, will now be handled by Chetan Singh Jouramajra, news agency PTI reported.
Previously, these departments were under Hayer's purview. Jouramajra, who currently oversees Defence Services Welfare, Freedom Fighters, Horticulture, and Information and Public Relations, will take on the new responsibilities.
Chief Minister Mann will personally manage the portfolio of Science, Technology, and Environment, which was formerly held by Hayer, PTI reported. This reshuffling takes place after a similar move by the chief minister in January this year.
Punjab Cabinet's Assembly Session on November 28 and 29
The notification comes after the Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, gave its approval for a two-day assembly session scheduled for November 28 and 29. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema conveyed that the upcoming session of the 16th Punjab Vidhan Sabha will address various pending Bills.
The assembly will deliberate on three crucial money Bills: the Punjab Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Amendment) Bill, 2023; the Punjab Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023; and the Indian Stamp (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2023. The session aims to facilitate the passage of these Bills and address other legislative matters.
The decision to hold a two-day session comes after the recent proroguing of the Budget session by the governor, which took place in March.
