The violence in Haryana's Nuh has reached Gurugram as a mob pelted stones and torched shops and a cab near Ambedkar Chowk in the Sohna Road area, reported the news agency IANS. A clash erupted here between two groups after stones were pelted during a religious procession and cars were set on fire on Monday. Two home guards were killed and at least 15 others, including cops, were left injured after a team of police reached the area to contain the clashes. A total of five deaths have been reported in the incident so far.


The state government has deployed police officials in different parts to keep a check on the situation. A mob in Nuh reportedly tried to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession, pelting stones and setting cars on fire.

  • According to IANS, the Gurugram district administration has intensified security and deployed huge police personnel after a mob of around 500 people pelted stones and torched four shops and a cab near Ambedkar Chowk in the Sohna road area. The morning visuals from the area showed burnt cars and shops.


 



  • Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij has said that the state government will conduct a detailed investigation into the Nuh violence. "The situation in Nuh is under control and a curfew has been imposed in the district...Both communities have been staying in Nuh peacefully for a long time. There is a conspiracy behind this. The way stones, weapons, bullets were found, it seems there is a mastermind behind this. We will conduct a detailed investigation and take strict actions against the people involved in this," the Home Minister told ANI.


 



  • Meanwhile, as per ANI, Haryana government officials said that the situation is under control in Nuh, Sohna and adjoining districts. "13 Companies of Paramilitary forces have been stationed there, 6 more companies will be reaching shortly. No curfew is imposed in Faridabad, Palwal and Gurugram, However, section 144 is imposed to avoid any untoward incident in these districts. Peace Committee meeting will commence shortly in Sohna," they added, as quoted by the agency.


 



  • Amid the rising concern over the violence, the Haryana government earlier sought 20 companies of the Rapid Action Force from the Centre for a week to maintain the law and order situation in the district. According to PTI, Haryana's Additional Chief Secretary (Home), T V S N Prasad, wrote to the Union home secretary seeking 20 companies of the RAF urgently for one week from July 31. "I am directed to address you on the subject (seeking 20 companies of RAF) ... incidents causing intense communal tension, annoyance, obstruction and injury to persons, danger to human life and property, disturbance to public peace and tranquility in district Nuh have occurred on account of violent protests by agitators, protesters, miscreants and anti-social elements," wrote Prasad.


 



  • An alert has also been sounded in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district following violence in Nuh, officials told PTI. Superintendent of Police, Bharatpur, Mridul Kachchawa said the vigil has been intensified in the district and social media is also being monitored. He added that all checkposts in areas sharing the border with Haryana are being manned, as quoted by PTI.



 



  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and other leaders urged the masses to maintain peace and harmony in the state.  In a tweet in Hindi, Khattar said," Today's incident is unfortunate. I appeal to all the people to maintain peace in the state. The guilty will not be spared at any cost, and strictest action will be taken against them." 


 



  • Prohibitory orders banning the assembly of people have been clamped in Nuh and Gurugram districts. Mobile internet and SMS services have been suspended till August 2 (Wednesday) to contain the intense communal tension, the Haryana government stated. 


 



  • Nuh Deputy Commissioner Prashant Panwar told news agency ANI that police are investigating the matter. "Section 144 has been imposed in the district. Curfew orders have been given... We appeal to all to maintain peace," he said, emphasising that the situation is normal while a curfew has been imposed in the district. 


 



  • About 2,500 men, women, and children who had taken shelter at a Shiv temple in Nuh were evacuated by police, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said, as per PTI. 


 



  • All educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and coaching centres in Faridabad district, will remain closed on August 01, 2023. Similarly, in the Gurugram district, these institutions will also remain closed. 


 



  • At least 120 vehicles were damaged during the violence in the district. Around 50 vehicles, including eight belonging to the police, were set ablaze, as per PTI.
