Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said there were no Omicron cases in the state currently and authorities were conducting more than 5 lakh tests daily.


He further said that the state government was taking every measure to ensure Omicron cases do not go undetected and efforts were being made to tackle any outbreak.

"Not a single case of Omicron has been found in our state so far. Arrangements have been made. Though there are no cases, you never know… Most numbers of per day tests are happening in the state, over 5 lakh tests being done (daily)," Nitish Kumar told reporters.


The Bihar CM said work was being done to increase the number of Covid-19 tests in the state so that anyone infected could be identified quickly. 


"Preparations are being made to prevent the possible third wave of Covid-19 and to deal with any situation," Nitish Kumar said.


More than nine crore vaccinations have been carried out in Bihar so far. 'We will soon achieve the 100 per cent vaccination target," he said.


Last week, the Bihar government sent samples of travellers, who tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in the state, for genomic sequencing. It has also ramped up contact tracing.


On Monday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said 161 Omicron cases had been detected in India. Omicron cases have been detected in 11 states and union territories. Maharashtra has registered the highest Omicron cases, followed by Delhi.
