Bodies of two, a 70-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, were recovered on Monday after a part of the balcony of a building collapsed in Vile Parle in Mumbai the previous day. Two persons were injured in the incident that took place on St Braz Road near Nanavati Hospital wherein a part of the balcony on the first floor of a ground-plus-two-floor building collapsed. The deceased were identified as Priscila Misquita (65) and Robbie Misquita (70), a fire brigade official said, as per news agency PTI.






As per PTI's report, two fire engines, one quick response vehicle, an ambulance as well as police and civic staff were deployed for the rescue operation. It has been raining heavily in some parts of Mumbai, including Vile Parle, since Saturday evening.


A total of four people were safely rescued, Maharastra Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said, as reported by news agency ANI. Three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were involved in the rescue operation


In a similar incident, three persons were injured when the roof of a restaurant collapsed in Maharashtra's Thane city following heavy rains, civic officials said on Sunday, as reported by PTI.

The incident took place late Saturday night at the restaurant located on Ghodbunder Road, Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Control Cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.Two women and a man received injuries and rushed to a nearby private hospital, he said.


Many localities in Ulhasnagar township were also affected due to the heavy downpour on Saturday, as per Thane district authorities. Heavy rains lashed Thane and neighbouring Palghar district on Saturday, causing water-logging in many low-lying areas, officials earlier said.        


Several areas in Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Badlapur in Thane district were inundated and people had to make their way through knee-deep water on Saturday evening.
