Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Sandeep Deshpande suffered injuries after he was allegedly attacked by unidentified men at Mumbai's Shivaji Park during his morning walk on Friday. Sandeep Deshpande was out with his friends for a morning walk in the Dadar area when he was attacked. Witnesses said that the five attackers were masked and armed with hockey sticks and fled the spot after the attack.


Deshpande was admitted to the Hinduja hospital for treatment where MNS chief Raj Thackeray visited him.


Deshpande was attacked with hockey sticks and cricket stumps. He sustained injuries on his hands and legs as per witnesses. MNS leader Yashwant Killedar said that he has been admitted to Hinduja hospital which was close to the site of the incident and was discharged after receiving first aid. He is out of danger, police said.


A first information report (FIR) has been registered at the Shivaji Park police station and the police have launched an investigation into the matter. CCTV footage is being scanned to identify the attackers. 


MNS workers have said that they will respond to this attack in their own style.


In another recent event, a Shiv Sena leader Sachin Bhosle was attacked towards the end of February while he was campaigning for the by-polls in Pune. Reportedly a group of individuals approached him to ask questions about his campaign.


When he started interacting with that group then allegedly, one out of the group punched him in the face due to which he fell on the ground. The attackers started to kick him while he was on the ground.


After the attackers fled the scene, Bhosle was taken to a hospital. He sustained injuries on his face and his body.


A case has been registered with the police against the unknown assailants. A probe into the matter is underway.
