New Delhi: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday reacted to the soldiers losing their lives in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri area.

Lashing out at the BJP-led central government, she asked why are the jawans losing their lives if the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is normal as claimed by the Centre.

On the loss of lives of four Army personnel, Mufti said, "When they (the Central govt) say that the situation in J&K is normal, then why are our jawans losing their lives?"

Mehbooba said it was heartbreaking to see officers and jawans lose their lives in the line of duty.

“Heartbreaking to see officers & jawans lose their lives in the line of duty despite GOIs misleading false claims that all is well in J&K. The price of this facade is being borne by them & innocent civilians who’ve become collateral damage in unabated violence. My deepest sympathies with their families & loved ones,” the PDP president said in a post on X.

On Wednesday, four Army personnel were killed and two others were injured in an encounter in the Rajouri area. Two captains were among four security personnel killed in the encounter.

A major and another jawan suffered injuries in the encounter, officials said, adding the injured have been shifted to the Army's Command Hospital in Udhampur, reported PTI.

In a post on X, the White Knight Corps of the Army said that based on specific intelligence, joint operations were launched in the Kalakote area of Gulabgarh forest in Rajouri on Sunday.

"Contact established on 22 November and intense firefight ensued. The terrorists have been injured and surrounded and operations are in progress, amidst acts of valour and sacrifice by own brave hearts in trying to prevent collateral damage to women and children in the highest traditions of Indian Army," it said.
