Three MBBS students in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, have been arrested for allegedly stealing a milk van and robbing the driver on Sunday. Two other accused, including an AIIMS Jodhpur student, remain at large, a PTI report said. The crime was reportedly captured by CCTV cameras.
According to PTI, the milk van driver, in his complaint, said five people approached him on Sunday night, and then threatened and manhandled him. He said they took off with his van, and stole some crates of milk and cash, Shastri Nagar Station House Officer (SHO) Devendra Singh said.
For now, the students have been booked for 'disturbing the peace'. “They will be produced in court and then booked under the charge of loot," the SHO said.
The arrested were identified as MBBS final-year student Vikas Bishnoi (22), and third-year students Mahesh Bishnoi (22) and Om Prakash Jat (23), all enrolled at SN Medical College. The two who escaped are students at SN Medical College and AIIMS Jodhpur.
According to the PTI report, the students stopped the milk van at the gates of the MDM Hospital and asked the driver to step out. When the driver came out of the van, the students “misbehaved and manhandled him”, the complaint said, as quoted by PTI.
The accused then reportedly pushed the driver to the back of the van, “while two of them entered the cabin and drove away the vehicle", the complaint stated. The driver also said the accused took Rs 4,600 cash from him.
"We rushed to the spot and confirmed the incident through the CCTV cameras installed around and identified the accused as medical students," said the SHO
The police began searching for the looted van after receiving the complaint and found it abandoned around 5 km away with two crates of milk missing.
Singh said, prima facie, the students appear to have attempted the crime as an adventure. During the rain, they left their hostel and came to the hospital gate with a plan to intercept a vehicle. Unfortunately, the oncoming milk van driver fell victim to this misadventure, the officer said.
