A freight train derailed on Saturday afternoon in Maharashtra's Raigad district, causing disruptions to rail operations along the Panvel-Vasai route, news agency PTI reported officials from the Central Railway as informing. No injuries have been reported in the incident, based on preliminary information. The Central Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Shivraj Manaspure, stated that the mishap occurred at approximately 3:05 pm on the Panvel-Kalamboli section.

Four wagons, including a brake van, of the freight train en route from Panvel in Raigad district to Vasai in Palghar district, derailed, as per PTI's report.

To address the situation, an Accident Relief Train (ART) has been dispatched from Kalyan and Kurla stations, with a Road ART sent from Panvel to the accident site, as informed by Manaspure.

Restoration efforts have commenced with the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Mumbai and other officers at the accident site.

Following the derailment, at least five passenger trains were temporarily halted at various points along the Konkan-Mumbai route. However, Navi Mumbai suburban services between the Panvel-CSMT section remain unaffected since the incident occurred on the Panvel-Kalamboli railway line, which connects to Mumbai and Vasai.

It is worth noting that railway authorities have scheduled a 38-hour mega block between Panvel and Belapur stations on the Harbour and Trans-Harbour corridors. This mega block commences on Saturday night and is aimed at laying two new lines under the Dedicated Freight Corridor project.
