Doctors at a government-run hospital in Maharashtra's Thane district wrongly performed surgery on a nine-year-old boy on his private part instead of an injured leg. The parents of the boy who is from Shahapur have complained to the police. The minor's parents said, "The boy suffered an injury on his leg while he was playing with his friends last month. He was admitted to the sub-district hospital in Shahapur on June 15 and was undergoing treatment. The doctors recently performed a circumcision surgery on his private part instead of the injured leg."
The doctors later said that they operated on his injured leg shortly after realising their mistake, parents said, as per news agency PTI.

After this allegation, a health official assured to launch an inquiry into this matter. The parents also lodged a complaint with the Shahapur police. Although no case has been registered so far into this matter, a police official confirmed that an investigation into the complaint was underway.
Thane: Medical Officer Claims Boy Needed 2 Operations
District Civil Surgeon Dr Kailas Pawar stated the health authorities are to conduct an inquiry into the allegations.
Gajendra Pawar, one of the medical officers at the hospital, stated that besides his leg injury, the boy also had a problem with phimosis (tight foreskin). "We had to carry out two operations," he said, as quoted by PTI.
Regarding notifying the parents about the second operation, the officer said the doctors might have forgotten to tell them or they might have informed the patient's other relatives.
Pawar stated that what the doctors did was right and there was nothing wrong with it. But the parents refused to accept the justifications given by the doctors. Two patients from the same age group underwent surgery at the hospital on the same day, doctors said.
