A police constable in Madhya Pradesh was suspended on Friday after a video of him kicking an elderly man at Jabalpur railway station went viral, leading to outrage. The suspension of the constable was confirmed by Superintendent of Police, Rewa. The incident is from Thursday.
In the video, the constable can be seen kicking the elderly man, dressed in T-shirt and track pants, repeatedly in a violent manner. The cop then catches the man by his legs and dangles him off the platform's edge, as passersby look on.
The video went viral after a passenger at the railway station broadcast it live on social media at the time of the incident.
"Taking immediate action, the MP Police has identified the accused. He has also been suspended by the Superintendent of Police, Rewa," the Division Railway Manager, Jabalpur, tweeted.
The victim, police said , has been identified as Gopal Prasad, NDTV reported. "A person was abusing me and when I complained the same to the policeman he started attacking me. I do not know the policeman," the victim said in his statement to the police.
Earlier in the day, a sub-inspector was suspended after a video went viral showing him pushing lawyers and misbehaving with them at the police station campus in Anuppur district.
Earlier this year in January, a video went viral showing a police woman forcing a man to clean her trousers. The incident hapepned after the man had reportedly sprayed mud over her while trying to reverse his bike, reports said. The police woman was also seen slapping the man before walking away.
