Liqour in Tetra Pack: Delhiites will soon be able to buy wine of selected brands in tetra packs instead of glass or plastic bottles. According to the sources in the Excise Department of the Delhi government, under the new excise policy, two brands have been allowed to sell liquor in tetra packs.

According to a report by The Times Of India, an official said, "Under the new policy, around 700 brands have been registered, out of which there are two brands that will be allowed to sell wine in tetra packs. It is worth mentioning that the wine in tetra pack is available in some states of the country,  but this is going to be the first time in Delhi."


Tetra packs will be of 180 ml


The official said that the liquor in the tetra pack, in particular, is popular in the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh etc.  Tetra packs are not only comparatively cheaper for packaging and reduce the cost of loss but also help in preventing adulteration. Of the nearly 700 brands registered so far, more than 200 are of whisky and wine, about 90 brands of beer, 50 of rum and brandy and 70 of vodka.  The official said that the two brands that have been allowed to be sold in tetra packs will be of 180 ml each.


Less than 600 liquor shops have been opened in Delhi.


Under Delhi's new excise policy, the city has been divided into 32 zones and licences have been allotted on a zonal basis. Though a total of 849 new liquor shops were to open, so far, less than 600 have opened so far. However, the official added that 50 more shops are expected to open soon.

As a result of the new policy, Delhiites are getting liquor at concessional rates for the first time as retailers are allowed to reduce prices. At the same time, 30% to 40% discount is being given in various shops, Apart from this, many unique offers are also being given. At the same time, the excise department has fixed only the maximum retail price under the new policy.
