Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday said that the Justice Shinde Committee which has been formed to give reservation to the Maratha community has submitted its first report adding that his government will formally accept the report. The CM’s statement came after he chaired a key meeting over the issue earlier in the day.
Members of the Maratha community have been staging protests since the last few months demanding reservation in government jobs and education under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
Following the Monday meeting, CM Shinde said that the first report of the Committee has been submitted with the Maharashtra government and has been given an extension of two months to submit the final report.
He also said that the Supreme Court has agreed to hear a curative petition in the matter and appealed to the people to not take any extreme steps.
"The Justice Shinde committee formed for giving reservation to the Maratha community has submitted their first report to us. The Committee has been given an extension for two months to submit their final report,” said the Chief Minister speaking to reporters in Mumbai.

“The Supreme Court has agreed to hear our curative petition on the issue of Maratha reservation...It is my sincere appeal to the people to not take any extreme steps, we are committed to giving reservation to the Maratha community,” he added.
“We will formally accept the report of the Justice Shinde committee on providing Maratha reservation in the Cabinet meeting today and orders will be issued by the Revenue Department to issue Kunbi caste certificates," said CM Shinde.
“An expert committee will be formed which will advise the state government for a proposed curative petition, which the state will file before the Supreme Court. The expert committee will have three retired judges,” he said further.
