Prajwal Revanna 'Scandal': The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Criminal Investigation Department has filed a detailed chargesheet against former Member of Parliament (MP) Prajwal Revanna and his father, MLA H D Revanna, in connection with multiple allegations of rape and sexual harassment.
The 33-year-old Prajwal Revanna is accused of committing heinous acts, including rape of four women and the creation of explicit videos involving over 70 women, according to a report on The News Minute. Till now, SIT has registered three cases of sexual assault of women and a case of sexual harassment against him.
SIT's Chargesheet Against Revanna & Prajwal
Prajwal Revanna, who is the son of H D Revanna—a prominent JD(S) leader and the son of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda—has been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These include sections 376 (rape), 376(2)(K) (aggravated rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354(A) (sexual harassment) and 354(B) (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe). His father, MLA H D Revanna, has been charged under sections 354 and 354(A) of the IPC for sexual harassment.
The SIT, which is probing the four cases, has submitted a 2,144-page chargesheet to the Special People’s Court in Bengaluru in one of the cases involving alleged sexual assault on a domestic help of the family. The chargesheet includes statements from approximately 150 witnesses, as well as various forms of evidence such as biological, physical, scientific, mobile and digital data, as reported by India Today. Expert opinions were also sought to strengthen the case before filing the chargesheet.
The investigation was triggered after a domestic help at the Revanna residence, who is also a relative of MLA H D Revanna's wife Bhavani, filed a complaint alleging repeated sexual harassment. The situation escalated when explicit videos allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna surfaced on social media, showing numerous women being sexually assaulted. This led to widespread outrage and a demand for justice, with the Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, Nagalakshmi Chowdhary, calling for a thorough inquiry.
Prajwal Revanna, who contested the recent Lok Sabha election as an NDA candidate from Hassan, lost the election amidst the emerging scandal. The SIT's chargesheet is now set to be examined by the special court.
