Kannada actor Darshan Toogudeepa, currently in judicial custody in the Renukaswamy murder case, has filed a petition with the Karnataka High Court. In his plea, Darshan sought permission for home-cooked food in jail, alongside other amenities including cutlery, clothing, bedding, and books.
Darshan's petition highlighted his significant weight loss due to difficulties in consuming and digesting prison food. He also reported suffering from diarrhoea, with prison doctors suspecting food poisoning.
The actor's plea references Section 30 of the Karnataka Prisons Act, 1963, which allows undertrial prisoners to receive specific items, subject to examination and approval by the Inspector General of Prisons (IGP), according to a report on PTI. The hearing for the petition has not yet been scheduled.
Karnataka 'Fan Murder' Case
The case revolves around the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan of Darshan. Police sources indicate that Renukaswamy had sent inappropriate messages to Pavithra Gowda, a close friend of Darshan and a co-accused in the case. This act allegedly led to the actor's enraged reaction and Renukaswamy's subsequent murder.
Renukaswamy's body was found near a stormwater drain in Sumanahalli on June 9. According to investigations, Raghavendra, a member of Darshan's fan club in Chitradurga, brought Renukaswamy to a shed in R R Nagar under the pretense of arranging a meeting with the actor. It was in this location that Renukaswamy was allegedly tortured and murdered on June 8, as per the report.
The post-mortem report concluded that Renukaswamy, originally from Chitradurga, died from shock and haemorrhage due to multiple blunt injuries.
Police sources have named Pavithra Gowda as the primary accused, indicating her significant role in the crime.
