New Delhi: Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka on Monday accused the Congress-led state government of making Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot speak lies during his customary address to the Legislature. The accusations were made by BJP leaders including Leader of Opposition R Ashoka and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. BJP leaders alleged that the Congress government had misrepresented the achievements of the previous state dispensation as its own.

"Congress has portrayed the schemes brought by the previous BJP government and the schemes of the Central government as its own", PTI quoted Ashoka as saying. He alleged inadequate implementation of promised schemes, including the 'Yuva Nidhi' program aimed at supporting unemployed youth, and the handling of drought relief efforts. Ashoka criticised the government for failing to deliver on its commitments, reported PTI.

"There is no mention of Rs 25,000 compensation that was sought for drought-affected farmers, but instead allegations are being levelled against the Central government", he remarked as per PTI.

Ashoka highlighted the completion of key projects such as the Shivamogga Airport, the Metro Rail Project, and the Jal Jeevan Mission, all of which were initiated under the BJP's administration. However, he lamented that the current government has claimed these achievements as their own. "Hatred against Hindus and terrorist activities are on the rise, but the government has painted a picture of peace and harmony in the state", he remarked as per PTI.

Ex-Karnataka CM Bommai Says Guv Speech Failing To Highlight Achievements Of Congress Govt

Basavaraj Bommai expressed disappointment with the lackluster nature of the governor's speech. He criticised the address for failing to highlight any substantive achievements of the present government, instead portraying the works of the previous administration as the successes of the Congress regime, reported PTI.

State BJP President B Y Vijayendra described the governor's speech as disappointing and replete with falsehoods. He lamented the apparent lack of development under the Congress government, asserting that the administration had failed to instill confidence or offer new hope through the governor's address.

Meanwhile, JD(S) state President and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy joined the chorus of criticism, lambasting the Congress government, saying," the governor's address has no mention about the programmes it intends to implement in the days ahead. The speech didn't have any essence, what to discuss it?".
