New Delhi: Kamal Kant Batra, the mother of the renowned Kargil War hero Captain Vikram Batra, breathed her last on Wednesday at the age of 77 in Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his condolences on X and wrote, "Received the sad news of the demise of Mrs. Kamalkant Batra, mother of Captain Vikram Batra. We pray to God to give strength to the bereaved family to bear the immense sorrow. Om Shanti."






Kamal Batra's Stint In Politics As AAP Leader, Contested 2014 Lok Sabha Election


Kamal Batra was a former leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and also participated in the political arena. She contested the general election in 2014 from Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur as an Aam Aadmi Party candidate, but quit the party months later expressing dissatisfaction over the functioning and organisational structure of the party, as per NDTV's report.


Notably, she was pitted against BJP's sitting MP and now Union Minister Anurag Thakur and Congress party's Rajinder Singh Rana.


Her son, Captain Vikram Batra, immortalised his name during the Kargil War, displaying unmatched valor and sacrifice. Captain Batra's heroic actions earned him the highest wartime gallantry award, the Param Vir Chakra, posthumously. His legacy as the "Tiger of Drass" and the "Lion of Kargil" continues to inspire generations.


As the news of her demise was confirmed, several people have offered condolences on her passing away.
