Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad on Monday resigned from the membership of Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, reported ANI. The MLA from Gandey constituency cited personal reasons for his resignation.

His resignation was accepted by the Chairman of Jharkhand Legislative Assembly after which the constituency fell vacant.

Ahmad won the seat in 2019 assembly elections defeating Bharatiya Janata Party's Jai Prakash Verma. He had won the same seat in 2009 on a Congress ticket defeating JMM's Salkhan Soren.

"He has submitted his resignation to me, I have informed the Assembly Secretariat and the concerned departments will also be informed," said Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato.

"He has resigned citing personal reasons." the Speaker added.

"He (Sarfaraz Ahmad) has given his resignation but we don't know the details about it," said Jharkhand Congress president Rajesh Thakur.

"The (Congress-JMM) alliance has also not held discussions about it, and that's why we won't like to make a comment about it," said the Congress leader while speaking to news agency PTI.
