Jharkhand Train Accident: At least two deaths are feared after a train ran over people walking on the track on Wednesday evening at Kalajharia Railway Station in Jharkhand's Jamtara. The casualties resulted after two persons walking on the track were run over by the train at least 2 km away from train no 12254 passing from Vidyasagar Kasitar, an ANI report said.


The accident took place near Kaljharia area in Jamtara district when some passengers got down from the train from the wrong side. A local train coming on another line hit them. "There is no incident of fire. As of now, two deaths have been confirmed," the report added. The two casualties are not passengers, but they are walking on the track, Kaushik Mitra, CPRO, Eastern Railway reportedly said.


Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren expressed grief over the incident and wished for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries due to the accident.


Soren took to X and said, "Heart is saddened by the sad news of train accident near Kaljharia station of Jamtara.  May God grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this difficult time of grief.  The administration team is engaged in relief and rescue work on the spot. I wish speedy recovery to those injured in the accident".






A 3-member JAG committee has been formed to enquire about the issue.








Speaking on the incident, Jamtara SDM Anant Kumar said, "Near the Kalajharia railway crossing, the train stopped and some passengers got off and were run over by another local train. Information was received that some people have died. RPF and the district police are conducting a search operation and two bodies have been recovered so far. The reason for the incident is yet to be determined."



Rescue operations are underway at Kalajharia railway station in Jamtara after the incident. "Two bodies have been recovered. We've requested Railways to start a helpline number. The reason will be known after investigation," Anant Kumar added.


Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta has directed the Jamtara Deputy Commissioner to continue the relief and rescue work and has also directed the Civil Surgeon Jamtara to provide proper treatment to the injured, as reported by news agency ANI. The Health Minister has directed that there should be no negligence in treatment.






President Murmu Condoles Loss Of Lives


President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday condoled the loss of lives in a train accident in Jharkhand's Jamtara district and offered condolences to the bereaved families.


"The news of sudden death of many people in a train accident in Jamtara district of Jharkhand is extremely saddening. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured," Murmu said in a post on X, in Hindi.
