Four members of a family were killed, and one sustained injuries after their car skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Thursday. According to PTI, the incident occurred in the Bhandarkoot area, where the car rolled down a hill into a deep gorge.
"The injured had been shifted to the hospital for treatment," a police official said, as per IANS.
Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Devansh Yadav reported that a health department employee, his wife and two of their children were killed on the spot. Meanwhile, the third child, who was injured, is said to be in a stable condition.
The hilly districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir are prone to road accidents due to bad road conditions and over-speeding by drivers.

Ghulam Nabi Azad, the chief of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, expressed condolences over the loss of lives in the accident and urged the government to intervene to address the "increasing" number of accidents in the Chenab Valley region.
"My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Urging the administration to provide adequate compensation. The increasing accidents in Chenab Valley are alarming; government intervention and preventive measures are imperative," Azad said on X.
Earlier this month, tragedy struck when a vehicle carrying six individuals plunged into a gorge in Ramban, resulting in the deaths of four while two others were injured. The accident occurred in the Pogal Paristan area of Ramban.
