New Delhi: A sudden short spell of thundershowers along with isolated heavy rainfall was reported in Mumbai and Thane on Wednesday,  inundating low-lying areas and disrupting vehicular traffic in the city and its suburbs.


People took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to share videos of heavy rains that lashed Mumbai city. Sharing a video of rainfall, a social media user wrote, "Massive rainfall in #Thane #MumbaiRains."






The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its weather forecast issued ‘Orange’ and 'Yellow' alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the many districts of Maharashtra including Thane, Mumbai, Pune, Palghar, and Kolhapur.


Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in its daily weather update had mentioned that Mumbai and its suburbs can expect moderate rain/thundershowers towards the evening/night on Wednesday, September 27.






Another video shared on X showed low-lying areas of KDKC, Bhiwandi, Thane and Mulund inundated. The video was captioned, "Severe Thunderstorm Inundated Many low lying areas of KDKC, Bhiwandi, Thane & Mulund with 50 mm per hour rains. Flash flood scenes from Mulund LBS Road."






In its bulletin, the IMD said that in West India, the weather forecast indicates light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning. There are isolated expectations of heavy rainfall over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra till Friday.
