An under-construction highway overpass collapsed in the Amreli district of Gujarat, said Officials on Thursday, reported news agency PTI. A video of the collapsed structure went viral on Thursday, despite the fact that the incident occurred on the morning of February 27 near the village of Datardi, which is close to Rajula.


According to Gaurang Makwana, the district collector for Amreli, no one was hurt in the incident.






He stated that the bridge, which is being constructed on the Datardi Bypass, is a part of the Bhavnagar-Somnath Highway, which is currently under construction.


"Concrete girders were installed on the pillars and the process of securing them was underway. Some concrete girders tilted and fell to the ground due to the mistake by an excavator operator," he told reporters.


Earlier, the century-old suspension footbridge over the Machchu river at Morbi, 300 kilometres from the state capital Gandhinagar, snapped at around 6:30 pm on October 30 when it was crammed with people. The bridge had reopened after extensive repairs and renovation. 


At least 135 people, including women and children, were killed and over 100 are receiving treatment for their injuries sustained after a cable suspension bridge built in 1880 in Morbi town collapsed, plunging people into the Machchhu River.


The CCTV footage has revealed that people standing on the narrow bridge fell into the river after one of the two main suspension cables suddenly snapped.’


The Oreva group had bagged the contract to maintain and operate the British-era bridge that collapsed on Sunday, four days after it was reopened post-renovation.
