New Delhi: Former Odisha Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang rejoined the Congress party on Wednesday after hopping over to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and then to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The nine-time Lok Sabha MLA joined the grand old party with his wife, Hema, and son, Shishir.

Gamang quit Congress in 2015 to join hands with the saffron party.

In a post on X, Congress wrote, "Today, in the presence of Congress Treasurer  Ajay Maken ji and Orissa Congress In-charge Dr Ajoy Kumar ji, former Chief Minister of Orissa, Giridhar Gamang ji joined the Congress Party. Along with Giridhar ji, Mrs. Hema Gamang ji, Sanjay Bhoi ji and Shishir Gamang ji also became part of the Congress Party. Congratulations to all of you and best wishes for the future."

He snapped ties with the BJP last year and joined the K Chandrashekhar Rao-led BRS.

The Wednesday development came amid speculations of Gamang and his son Shishir coming back to Congress. Gamang had been a nine-time Lok Sabha MP from Koraput between 1972 and 2004.
