Five people were killed and three were seriously injured after a speeding car slammed into an autorickshaw in Bihar’s Begusarai early on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred on National Highway 31 at Ratan Chowk in Begusarai town at 5.30 am.
The people in the auto were travelling to Simariya from Zeromile when the collision happened. All five occupants of the auto died on the spot, including the driver. The injured were rushed to a private hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
According to a Hindustan Times report, eyewitnesses said the car was trying to overtake another vehicle from the opposite direction when the collision occurred.
Police arrived at the scene soon after receiving information about the accident. They helped remove the bodies from the mangled auto.
“Bodies are being sent for the post-mortem examination and the matter is being investigated," a statement issued by the Begusarai police said.
The five deceased include Vicky Pathak, a resident of Nalanda, and Sentu Yadav from Begusarai. Pathak was the chief of technical staff in the cancer department at AIIMS Delhi. They were going to attend Pathak’s brother-in-law’s wedding. The other three were Amandeep Kumar, 22, and Nitish Kumar, 25, of Garhpura, and Gautam Kumar, also a resident of Begusarai.
HT reported that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has extended condolences to the family of the deceased and ordered proper medical care for the injured.
