Delhi: 13-Year-Old Boy Dies From Electrocution While Playing Cricket In Ranhola

Police confirmed that the boy who was playing cricket in Kotla Vihar Phase-2, was electrocuted after coming into contact with an iron pole that was carrying electricity to a gaushala (cowshed).

A 13-year-old boy lost his life after being electrocuted while playing cricket in the Ranhola area of outer Delhi. Soon after the incident, he was immediately rushed to the nearest Hospital where he was declared dead, police reported on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer) Jimmy Chiram said that they got a PCR call on Saturday at 1.27 pm at the Ranhola police station regarding the death of a boy due to electrocution. The police learned that the boy, who was playing cricket in Kotla Vihar Phase-2, was electrocuted after coming into contact with an iron pole that was carrying electricity to a gaushala (cowshed), DCP Chiram added.

"He was immediately taken to DDU Hospital by PCR van where he was declared dead," PTI quoted DCP as saying. Police registered an FIR under Section 106 (1) of the BNS and an investigation has been launched.

The victim's mother, Anita Devi, has called for strict action against both the gaushala and the Power Department. "My son, who was a student of class seven of a government school, went to play cricket with his friends on Saturday. He went near the gaushala to pick the ball. He got an electric shock from a pole carrying electric wire to a cowshed," Devi said.

She expressed that many young children go to the ground to play cricket, and this incident could happen to anyone. As her son was dying, no one came ahead to help. Her elder son was shouting for help to save him, but not a single person asked the gaushala members to switch off the power.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva Expresses Sorrow

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva expressed his sorrow over the incident and has called for a probe. Sachdeva pointed out that this is the seventh such death in Delhi due to the negligence of power companies.

"Such cases have become a case of criminal maintenance negligence of the power discoms. In all the cases of deaths due to electric shock this year, a case of criminal negligence should be registered against the power discoms concerned," Sachdeva said, PTI reported.
