Over 1,000 people from 83 villages in Assam have been afftected following severe waterlogging due to heavy rain under the impact of cyclone 'Sitrang', ANI reported. Even though cyclone Sitrang skirted the West Bengal coast and hit Bangladesh, Assam has been battered by heavy rain since Monday.
Several houses have been damaged due to heavy rainfall in Assam, impacting 1,146 people, as per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
The Kamrup district witnessed heavy rainfall while Guwahati saw waterlogging in several areas on Tuesday. Maligaon, Santipur, Fatashil Ambari, Hatigaon and Sijubari were waterlogged due to incessant rain, IANS reported.
Light to moderate rainfall has been predicted at a few places on Wednesday, according to the forecast by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati. The Met department said that the weather was likely to get better from Wednesday in Assam.

Apart from this, Sitrang also affected 325.501 hect of crops. Numerous trees and electric poles were also uprooted in various parts of Nagaon district of the state due to the cyclonic storm on Monday night. No casualties due to the storm have been reported so far in the area.
Kaliabor, Bamuni, Sakmuthia tea estates, and Boraligaon areas of central Assam have also reported damages in several houses.
In Mizoram, at least five houses and two relief camps were damaged due to heavy rain under the impact of the cylone. The rainfall also triggered landslides and uprooted trees along several highways in various parts of Mizoram, PTI reported.
Cyclone 'Sitrang' made landfall in Bangladesh near Barisal on Monday night, killing 35 people. Around 10 million people have been left without power in districts along the coasts.
The cyclone made landfall between Tinkona island and Sandwip near Barisal in Bangladesh with wind speeds gusting to 100 kmph.
